A “political resolution” to this effect was passed at the meeting of the JD(U)’s state council, said senior leader and Bihar minister Sunil Kumar.
He added, “At the state council meeting, state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha‘s re-election was ratified unanimously”.
Kushwaha, who is the sitting MLA from Mahnar, had been re-elected as the JD(U) state president for the third consecutive term in March this year.
He was first elevated to the crucial party post in 2021, in what was seen as an attempt to consolidate the JD(U)’s traditional support base of Kurmis and Koeris, referred to as “Luv Kush” in the local political lexicon.
Sunil Kumar was also asked whether there was any resolution on Nishant, who is the Health minister in the BJP-led government that was formed after his father stepped down as CM in April, following election to the Rajya Sabha.

Kumar replied ,”Yes the party has unanimously resolved that Nishant is our leader of the future. He is already an active member of the party and it was unanimously resolved that he be assigned a big role”.
To a specific question as to whether there was a resolution on Nishant being made working president, a post currently held by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha, Kumar said, “That is a decision to be taken by our national leadership. We have reaffirmed our full faith in Nishant”.

Echoing similar sentiments, young JD(U) MLA Komal Singh told reporters, “The party owes its standing to Nitish Kumar. And we have resolved that Nishant bhaiya shall be our leader of the future”.
