Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl suffered a wrist fracture while playing at a children’s gaming zone inside a mall at Errum Manzil. This led to a police investigation, with the facility’s management facing allegations of negligence over unsafe conditions in the play area.Based on a complaint filed by the child’s father, Lt Colonel Bipan Singh Negi of the Mehdipatnam Army area, Punjagutta police registered a case against the mall management and launched a preliminary probe into the incident.According to the complaint lodged on June 18, the incident occurred on June 8 between 6.15 pm and 6.50 pm when the girl was playing at the gaming zone inside the mall. While using a trampoline, she entered a foam pit and allegedly sustained a serious injury.“She was subsequently diagnosed with a wrist fracture and placed in a cast. She is currently unable to attend school or engage in normal activities for about six weeks,” the complainant told police.Lt Colonel Negi alleged that the foam pit was inadequately filled with cushioning material and that portions of the base structure underneath were exposed, creating a potential safety hazard for children using the facility. To verify his concerns, the officer said he personally visited the gaming zone on June 12 and video-recorded the foam pit. The footage, he claimed, showed deficiencies in the safety arrangements at the attraction. The complainant further stated that on June 15 he emailed the managers of both the gaming zone and the mall, requesting them to preserve CCTV footage, visitor registers and maintenance logs related to the incident. However, he alleged that no response was received from either party.Police said notices would be issued to the mall management as part of the investigation. Officials added that CCTV footage from the gaming zone would be examined and other relevant records scrutinised to ascertain whether safety lapses contributed to the child’s injury.Acting on the complaint, Punjagutta police registered a case on June 18 against the managing director of the mall under sections 125(b) (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
