Ahmedabad: The provisional merit list for first-year degree and diploma pharmacy admissions in the state was released on Friday. Out of 14,418 students who registered for admissions this academic year, 13,461 were included in the provisional merit list.Admission officials said that 12,820 seats were available across 160 pharmacy colleges offering degree and diploma programmes in the state. With the number of eligible candidates only marginally higher than the available seats, a majority of students in the merit list are expected to secure admission.The merit list was prepared on the basis of scores in GUJCET and Class 12. Among the shortlisted candidates, 5,639 were boys and 7,822 were girls.Milan Khandhar of the Gujarat Board secured the top rank in the GUJCET-based merit list with 99.95 merit marks. Candidates can check their merit status by logging into their respective accounts on the admission committee’s official website.Board-wise data shows that 12,049 candidates are from the Gujarat Board, while 1,223 are from CBSE and 84 from ICSE Board. Another 106 candidates belong to other boards, including Cambridge, NIOS and the International Baccalaureate (IB).Category-wise, the provisional merit list comprises 4,539 candidates from the general category, 2,686 from economically weaker sections (EWS), 908 from Scheduled Castes (SC), 4,130 from Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), and 1,198 from Scheduled Tribes (ST).Under the existing admission policy, 95% of seats in govt and grant-in-aid institutions and 50% of seats in self-financed colleges will be allotted on the basis of GUJCET merit. The remaining 5% of seats in govt institutions will be filled using JEE or NEET scores.The mock round choice-filling process will remain open until June 25. The final merit list and mock round allotment results are scheduled to be announced on June 27, after which the regular admission rounds will begin.
