T’puram: Kadakkavoor police arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the theft of a traditional lamp and a hanging lamp from Sree Mannarakkavu Madan Thampuran Temple at Kannankara in Manamboor.The arrested person is Zulfikar of Charuvila, Kannankara. Police said the theft occurred during the daytime on June 10 when the accused allegedly broke open the temple gate, entered the premises and stole the valuables.The entire incident was captured on the temple’s CCTV cameras. Based on the visuals and subsequent investigation, police identified the suspect, who was meanwhile remanded in a separate motorcycle theft case.After securing his custody for questioning, police interrogated him, during which he allegedly confessed to selling the stolen lamps at a hardware shop near Attingal. A police team later accompanied him to the shop and recovered the stolen articles.The recovered items were brought to the temple’s premises, and evidence was collected.The probe was led by Kadakkavoor SHO Saiju, with the assistance of SI Sajith, ASI Manoj and other police personnel. Police said the accused is involved in several theft and assault cases registered at Kadakkavoor and Kallambalam police stations.
