Bhubaneswar: Odisha will set up a structured engagement mechanism to fast-track Singapore’s investment proposals, the govt said after chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi had a meeting with Singapore’s high commissioner to India, Simon Wong, on implementing bilateral projects here on Wednesday.The meeting marked a step towards translating the commercial and technical potential between Odisha and Singapore into concrete outcomes. Majhi underscored that Singapore’s expertise in urban planning, clean energy, port management and technology would support the state’s development ambitions. He said Odisha’s growth momentum in recent years makes Singapore a natural partner in achieving the goals of ‘Samruddha Odisha 2036’ and ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.Highlighting Odisha’s investment climate, the chief minister assured Singapore investors of full support, including a single-window clearance system and prompt decision-making on proposals.Referring to Singapore president Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit to Odisha in Jan 2025, Majhi said it strengthened bilateral cooperation. Eight MoUs were signed across five key state departments during the previous visit. Stressing the need for expediting their implementation, he proposed the structured engagement mechanism to ensure progress of these agreements and deepen partnerships. He also invited Singapore-based firms to explore opportunities in green energy, urban development and skill development.The chief minister also highlighted initiatives such as the ‘Black Swan Summit’ held in Odisha in Feb, aimed at skilling youth in fintech and insurtech sectors, and said collaboration with Singapore would further strengthen these efforts.Wong congratulated the chief minister on the completion of two years of his govt and reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to partnering Odisha in its growth journey.
