Ludhiana: Strong winds and overnight rain lashed Ludhiana on Thursday, causing a sharp drop in both day and night temperatures and bringing residents much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave. The meteorological department recorded 9.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on Thursday and 8.30 am on Friday, while no further rain fell during the daytime on Friday.The maximum temperature plummeted to 32.8°C, which is 5.5°C below normal and 2.4°C lower than Thursday. Similarly, the minimum temperature settled at 20.4°C, marking a 5.2°C drop below normal and a 1°C decrease from the previous night.Weather officials have forecast a partly cloudy sky with below-normal temperatures for the weekend, followed by a strong probability of fresh rainfall on Monday.The sudden shift to pleasant weather cheered up local residents, making outdoor activities and household chores comfortable again after days of intense heat. Local resident Jaswinder Singh noted that the cooler evenings have allowed children, who were previously confined indoors by the heatwave, to return to parks and open spaces, encouraging families to step out for walks.Echoing similar sentiment, homemaker Manpreet Kaur stated that the consecutive evenings of rainfall have brought a much-needed respite, making daily household activities more comfortable and significantly lifting the overall mood of the residents.
