Baraik, from Alipurduar, became the third RS MP to resign in four days, reducing TMC’s tally in the Upper House to 10 from 13. He submitted his resignation to RS Chairman CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday morning.
Baraik was always known as a loyalist of Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and became a Rajya Sabha member in 2023. Baraik said he wants to work with present CM Suvendu Adhikari for the people. Baraik said, “I am young and will think about my future in politics”.
Among the spate of resignations was that of veteran party leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, who resigned from the RS on June 8. He had claimed that his decision was prompted by his desire to accept the verdict of the people of West Bengal.
On Wednesday, another RS member, Sushmita Dev, daughter of Congress stalwart Santosh Mohan Dev resigned from both the Upper House and the party’s primary membership. She hails from Assam and met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Delhi immediately after her resignation.
Meanwhile, sources said a meeting was held at the residence of Bhupendra Yadav, in the presence of Suvendu Adhikari who was in New Delhi, where long-time Mamata loyalists and Lok Sabha MPs Mala Roy and Saayoni Ghosh were present.

Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Babul Supriyo said in a small video message on social media on Thursday that he thinks “it is inappropriate to abandon a ship when it is in troubled waters”.
“Amid all this confusion and rumours, I just wish to make it clear that I am neither joining any other faction nor any party,” he said.
“I am exactly where I am — with the party & leader!!” Supriyo wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. He wrote “Respecting the overwhelming mandate the people of Bengal have given to BJP, I shall work with CM Suvendu Adhikari and use my MPLAD fund in consultation and mutual agreement with him and his government.”

Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Pratima Mondal on Thursday denied reports linking her to a group of rebel Parliamentarians allegedly seeking to distance themselves from the party, asserting that her name was being falsely dragged into the ongoing political turmoil triggered by a series of resignations by TMC leaders.
