Kanpur: Kanpur Nagar district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Thursday inspected the overhead water tank constructed under the Jal Jeevan Mission in Baudhanpur–Chaudharypur and adjoining villages and expressed displeasure over the failure to start potable water supply despite completion of the project.According to officials, the project, involving construction of an overhead tank and laying of pipelines in three villages, had already been completed.During the inspection, villagers complained to the DM about unnecessary delays and red tape in implementation of the scheme.Annoyed over the situation, the DM contacted Manoj Dwivedi, project manager of the executing agency VTL, from the inspection site, reprimanded him and directed that the water supply be started immediately. The DM said that failure to provide the benefits of a completed scheme to villagers despite successful trials amounted to serious negligence. He warned that unnecessary delays in implementing public welfare schemes would not be tolerated. He said the project was undertaken to provide clean drinking water to a population of 3,466 across three villages.Officials of the executing company said that the water supply, which had been temporarily disrupted due to DI pipe-related work at the overhead tank, has now been restored.Under the scheme, piped drinking water is to be supplied to 663 households, and around 9,782 metres of pipeline has been laid.
