T’puram: Vanchiyoor police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly misleading investigators in the attempted murder case involving the assault of a father and his teenage son at Sreekanteswaram last week. Police identified the accused as Akhil alias Plachi of Marayamuttam. Investigators said he falsely claimed to have accompanied the main accused, history-sheeter Shyamkumar alias Thakaraparambu Kuttan, during the incident to divert the probe and help the real accomplice evade arrest. Police said efforts are under way to trace the actual assailant who allegedly participated in the attack. Akhil was produced before a court and remanded. The case relates to an attack on Rajesh Kumar, 53, a BSNL employee, and his teenage son Abhinav on Friday night. According to police, the duo was returning home on a scooter after the latter’s tuition class when they encountered a car allegedly parked in the middle of the road, causing a traffic bottleneck. When Kumar questioned the obstruction and asked that the vehicle be moved, Shyamkumar allegedly became enraged. He and another man allegedly assaulted them before fleeing the scene. Kumar suffered a fracture in the attack, while Abhinav sustained facial injuries. Shyamkumar, who has several criminal cases registered against him, was arrested earlier and remanded in judicial custody.
