Surat: A seven-foot python that got trapped in a fishing net used to shield crops on a farm in Onchi village was rescued on Monday morning, underlining the risks ad hoc protective measures pose to wildlife.Activists from the Navsari-based Wildlife Rescue Trust responded after a farmer alerted them that a python had got entangled in a net he used to shield crops from animals.Harish Mali and his team reached the spot and found the reptile completely tangled in the mesh. The farmer had put up the fishing net around his field to prevent crop damage. The rescuers carefully cut the net from multiple sides and freed the python without injuring it.They then handed the reptile over to Navsari forest department officials, who examined its health before releasing it back into the forest.
