Pune: Marking a significant step in strengthening higher education and research infrastructure, DES Pune University will inaugurate a building for its school of science and mathematics along with two advanced research centres on June 5.The new facility, aimed at promoting cutting-edge scientific and interdisciplinary research, will be inaugurated by Maharashtra higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil and Raghunath Mashelkar, prominent scientist and president of the Pune International Centre.Announcing the development at a news conference on Tuesday, Ashok Palande, vice-president of the governing board of the Deccan Education Society (DES), said the initiative would provide a major boost to research-driven education and innovation in science and mathematics.The university has also established two specialised research facilities – the Mukunddas Lohia Advanced Research Centre for Ecology and Conservation (ARC) and the Centre for Interdisciplinary, Integrated and Applied Research (CIIAR). These centres are expected to serve as hubs for research in biodiversity conservation, environmental sustainability and interdisciplinary studies that bring together expertise from multiple academic domains.
