Sharing details of the meeting on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the Union Minister’s perspectives on global affairs and the evolving energy landscape as “extremely insightful.”

The discussions between the two leaders focused on expanding Assam’s hydrocarbon potential through increased exploration activities across the state and boosting production from existing oil and gas fields. The leaders also explored ways to leverage Assam’s rich energy resources to support the country’s growing energy requirements.
Assam has long been a key centre of India’s oil and natural gas industry, and the state government has been actively working to attract investments in exploration and production. The latest discussions are expected to further strengthen cooperation between the Centre and the state in the energy sector.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that enhanced exploration and production efforts would enable Assam to play an even bigger role in India’s growth story while contributing to the nation’s energy security and economic development.
Sarma on Monday said that India’s recently concluded Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) would unlock significant opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs and create new avenues of growth for businesses and farmers in Assam.In a post on X following his meeting with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at Vanijya Bhawan, the Chief Minister said, “The multiple Free Trade Agreements that have been signed by India will unlock several opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs.”

Sarma said he complimented the Union Minister and his ministry for successfully navigating complex trade negotiations that led to the signing of these landmark agreements.
“Today during my meeting with Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal Ji, I complimented his ministry for successfully navigating these complex negotiations as well as discussed how small businesses & farmers in Assam can benefit from these landmark agreements,” the Chief Minister wrote.
The discussions focused on leveraging the FTAs to improve market access and growth prospects for Assam’s small businesses and agricultural producers. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the benefits of expanded international trade reach grassroots stakeholders across the state.
The meeting also covered issues concerning Assam’s tea industry, one of the state’s key economic sectors. “We also spoke on resolving issues pertaining to our tea industry,” Sarma said in his post.
The Chief Minister exuded optimism that the trade agreements would help boost entrepreneurship, exports and economic growth while enhancing Assam’s contribution to India’s development story.
Sarma on Monday held a detailed discussion with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on the progress of several transformative infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating the state’s development.
In a post on X after the meeting, Sarma described his interaction with the Union Minister as a valuable learning experience and credited Gadkari’s support for the significant advancement of infrastructure in Assam.
“Meeting Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji is always a learning experience. Assam’s infrastructure has benefited tremendously from his support, and he has always been available to help solve ongoing issues,” the Chief Minister wrote.
Chief Minister Sarma also expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for his guidance during the Assam elections and discussed a range of ongoing and upcoming infrastructure initiatives across the state.
The two leaders reviewed the progress of major projects including the proposed Brahmaputra underwater tunnel, the Kaziranga Elevated Corridors, National Highway expansion works and road repair projects being undertaken across Assam.
“We discussed the progress of transformative projects such as the Brahmaputra underwater tunnel, Kaziranga Elevated Corridors, National Highway expansion and repair projects across the state, among other issues to further accelerate Assam’s growth trajectory,” Sarma said in his post.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, Kavitha Padmanabhan were also present during the meeting.
The Chief Minister noted that these projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity, boost economic activity and strengthen Assam’s infrastructure network, contributing to the state’s long-term growth and development.
