Prayagraj: District traffic police authorities on Sunday chalked out diversion plan for heavy vehicles and deployment of traffic police forces as the one lane (from Daraganj to Jhunsi) on Shastri bridge would be closed for traffic movement from June 3 for bridge repair. DCP (Traffic) Neeraj Pandey told TOI that, “ Two wheelers and light vehicles will be allowed on another lane, duties of traffic policemen and home guards have been assigned to regulate traffic.”DCP, meanwhile, said that repair work will first be carried out on the route leading from Daraganj to Jhunsi and traffic will be closed spanning a month and a half. Small vehicles and four-wheelers will be diverted to use the lane designated for traffic from Jhunsi to Daraganj. During the repair of the Shastri Bridge, the movement of buses, electric buses, trucks, dumpers, tractors, and other heavy vehicles will diverted on different routes from June 3 to July 15. The Public Works Department (PWD), Construction Division, had been making efforts to undertake the repairs of the Shastri Bridge for the past two years but permission could not be obtained due to various reasons. Around Rs 15 crore is likely to be spent on the bridge repair work.
