Mumbai: A family from Mumbra, whose son was missing for the past decade, was finally reunited with him at Malad police station after they found him begging on the street and decided to dig deeper into his background. Kamruddin Khan, now 27, broke down on seeing his parents.On May 26, Malad police were carrying out a routine drive, rounding up beggars from the street for rehabilitation. The team found a young man who claimed he belonged to Basti village in Uttar Pradesh. But on quizzing him further about his family, he gave evasive responses.After bringing him to the police station and offering him some food, the cops quizzed him again the following day. The young man said his name was Kamruddin and he used to live near an Urdu school in Sakinaka.A police team went to the location described by Kamruddin, but couldn’t find his family. They showed his photographs to local residents, two of whom identified him. They told the police that Kamruddin used to live in Sakinaka with his parents when he was a school-goer. But over a decade ago, he failed in his exams and ran away from home. His family had since moved to Mumbra.The residents gave the police a phone number belonging to Kamruddin’s aunt. Through her, the police were able to speak to his parents. On Wednesday, the family had an emotional reunion with Kamruddin at Malad police station.Under the supervision of DCP Sandeep Ghuge, senior inspector Dushyant Chavan, and inspector Sanjay Bedal, Malad police have reunited four such individuals with their families within the span of one week.
