Kanpur: Two people were killed and two injured in a three-vehicle collision near the Pakka Bagh Railway Overbridge on the Agra-Kanpur Highway in Etawah early Friday.The crash occurred around 4 am in the Friends Colony police station area, triggering panic at the scene and disrupting traffic on the highway for hours. On being alerted, police reached the spot and began relief and rescue operations.Police said a bus rear-ended a dumper traveling from Agra to Kanpur. The bus got stuck against the dumper and stopped. Smoke started coming from the bus, and passengers got off. At that moment, a double-decker Shatabdi bus coming from behind rammed into the stationary bus with force. Passengers standing on the road were also hit.Sohanlal Gautam, 40, of Kanpur died on the spot, while Vivek Mishra, 45, of Noida succumbed during treatment at the District Hospital in Etawah.Eyewitnesses and passengers alleged that the driver of the bus that hit from behind was under the influence of alcohol. Police have initiated an inquiry into the allegation.Both buses were taken into custody, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.SSP Brijesh Kumar Shrivastava said relief and rescue operations began immediately after the crash. The damaged vehicles were removed and traffic was restored.
