Guwahati: A senior state civil service officer, holding the post of additional director of land records, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly accepting Rs 45,000 as bribe.The directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption wing of Assam Police allegedly caught the officer, identified as Lachit Kumar Das, red-handed while receiving the bribe.After arresting Das, sleuths of the anti-corruption raided his residence here.Officials said a complaint was lodged against Das, accusing him of demanding Rs 1 lakh from a landowner in exchange for issuing a no objection certificate for land sale permission. Acting on the complaint, the team laid a trap at the land records office.During the operation, Das was apprehended after allegedly accepting Rs 45,000 — part of the alleged bribe amount — from the complainant. The money was later recovered from his possession.A case has been registered at the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended 2018). Following sufficient evidence, Das was taken into custody. tnn
