Gurgaon: A motorcycle with pending traffic challans worth a staggering Rs 11.9 lakh was impounded during an enforcement drive. Officials on Tuesday found 81 unpaid fines linked to the vehicle.The action was taken during checks near Agrasen Chowk, where SI Sudesh and his team stopped the motorcycle bearing registration number HR 32 C 8885 for inspection. During verification, police found 81 challans pending against the vehicle under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.According to police, the violations mainly included driving without insurance, pollution certificate and registration certificate, along with several other traffic offences. The total pending fine amount was calculated at Rs 11,89,000.As many of the challans remained unpaid for more than 90 days, the traffic police initiated action under Section 167(8) of the Motor Vehicles Act and impounded the motorcycle. The vehicle was later shifted to the designated impound parking facility.Traffic police officers said they have been carrying out special drives against habitual traffic violators and motorists with long-pending challans. Vehicle owners are being informed about their pending dues and advised to clear them promptly.Police appealed to commuters to follow traffic rules and ensure that all mandatory vehicle documents, including insurance papers, pollution under control certificates and registration certificates, remain valid and updated at all times.“The crackdown against such violators will continue in future too. Traffic police are making sincere efforts to streamline the traffic here and to reduce road accidents, for which regular fining of the violators is being done,” Vikas Verma, traffic police spokesperson, said.Earlier on Feb 5, a motorcycle with 41 pending traffic challans amounting to around Rs 5 lakh was impounded by the traffic police near Dundahera border during a special enforcement drive for non-payment of fines pending for over 90 days.
