Chennai: A 33-year-old woman was arrested for misappropriating 28 lakh from a private firm at Chintadripet, where she worked as an accountant.Police acted on a complaint filed by Deenadayalan, 53, of Chintadripet, who runs three companies dealing in electronic and computer-related equipment. He said that Dharani, who worked in his firm for about seven years, suddenly stopped coming to work on Aug 2025 without any notice. Suspicious, he reviewed the company’s financial records and discovered that between 2022 and 2024, she misappropriated 28 lakh.When confronted, Dharani reportedly admitted to the fraud and agreed to repay 18 lakh in installments. But she ended up paying only 1 lakh through cheque and 60,000 via digital transfer.Based on the complaint, police registered a case of cheating and launched an investigation. Dharani was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.tnn
