Shillong: Judge Dashalene R Kharbteng of the court of additional DC (judicial), Shillong, on Friday rejected the bail petitions of four co-accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The alleged co-conspirators – Raj Kushwaha, Akash Singh Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Singh Chauhan – were arrested from different locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in June, 2025, and are currently lodged in Shillong Jail.“The court has held that their claim, that the ground on which they were arrested was not communicated to them, is incorrect, and accordingly has rejected their bail applications,” public prosecutor KC Gautam said.Earlier, on April 27, the court had granted conditional bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder case, on grounds of procedural lapses, maintaining that police had not informed her about the specific sections of the BNS under which she was arrested. On Tuesday, the Meghalaya high court had issued a notice to concerned parties, following petition filed by the state govt on Monday, challenging Sonam’s bail. The state maintained that Sonam was aware of the grounds of her arrest and sought revocation of her bail. The matter is likely to be heard by the high court next week.
