Gurgaon: Days after a Bank of America employee was shot at outside his house in Laxman Vihar, police arrested a 49-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly for allegedly attempting to murder him over a financial rivalry linked to the victim’s brother.Vivek was arrested on Thursday by the Palam Vihar Crime Branch unit for the firing on Wednesday.Preliminary investigation revealed that Vivek and the victim’s brother, Gaurav, had started a hotel business in Bareilly. “The business suffered losses, leaving Vivek in financial distress. With his brother’s support, Gaurav remained financially stable. Vivek held resentment against Gaurav and targeted Rastogi ,” Sandeep Turan, police spokesperson, said.According to police, the victim, Rajat Rastogi, had returned from work and stepped out of his car outside his house on Street No. 4 in Laxman Vihar around 6 pm when the attacker approached him from behind and opened fire.Police said the bullet missed Rastogi and struck a nearby wall, but gunpowder from the shot injured one of his eyes. The attacker fled the spot after abandoning a country-made pistol at the scene.Hearing him scream, residents alerted the police control room. Teams from Sector 9-A police station, Sector 4 police post and the crime branch rushed to the spot. Rastogi was first taken to Kalyani Hospital in Sector 14 and later referred to the civil hospital for treatment.During the initial investigation, police recovered the country-made pistol, one empty cartridge and two live cartridges from a nearby vacant plot.Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act at Sector 9-A police station, and investigation was handed over to the crime branch.Police said the accused is being interrogated, and further investigation into the case is underway.
