Aizawl: Mizoram has experienced a surge in Covid-19 infections over the past few days, with 32 active cases on Friday — all of them within the municipal area of Aizawl, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) officials said on Friday.The officials said out of 11 samples tested on Friday, 10 people were found to be infected with Covid-19. Five out of 10 people tested positive on Thursday and 18 out of 22 people tested positive on Wednesday. One person was discharged after treatment on Friday.The state health and family welfare department has issued an advisory appealing to the people to take precautionary measures in view of the possible upsurge of the disease into endemic proportions.“The state has been free from Covid-19 disease for two years, but it is here to stay,” the advisory said.The Covid-19 pandemic hit the state in early 2020 resulting in the death of 734 people. Aizawl district had the highest number of Covid-19 deaths at 467 during the period.Since March 2020, at least 19,98,505 people have been tested for Covid-19 infection till date, of which 2,39,751 people were found to be infected while 2,38,985 people recovered from the infection, the officials added.
