Pune: City mayor Manjusha Nagpure has directed the PMC to conduct a detailed audit of CCTV surveillance system in the city in the backdrop of recent incidents of crimes against girls in Nasarapur, Mhalunge and other areas.She emphasised that all faulty units must be repaired or replaced on a priority basis to ensure round-the-clock monitoring at key locations. Additionally, she called for the removal of physical obstacles blocking camera views and the appointment of a dedicated maintenance team.Taking further action, the mayor met police commissioner Amitesh Kumar at the city police headquarters. She submitted a letter demanding mandatory background checks and character verification for all security personnel deployed at housing societies, commercial establishments, and public spaces. Nagpure urged the police department to ensure that no individual is hired for security roles without formal police clearance.“The police department must also launch an awareness campaign to educate residents on essential safety protocols,” Nagpure stated. She further appealed to citizens to remain vigilant regarding new tenants in their housing complexes and to report any suspicious activities to the local police immediately.PMC officials confirmed they are already working in close coordination with the city police to streamline surveillance monitoring and bridge existing gaps in the network..
