Gumla: Students from Gumla secured the first position in arts, second in science and third in commerce in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), emerging as the best-performing district. In 2025, Gumla ranked 4th in arts, 6th in science and 14th in commerce, making this year’s performance a significant leap. Students from Gumla recorded a pass percentage of 99.52 in arts, 91.06 in science and 98.43 in commerce, marking a major academic milestone. The district also topped the recently declared JAC Class X examinations with a pass percentage of 99.32.A total of 6,560 students appeared in arts stream, 974 in science, and 510 in commerce stream. Of them, 5,317 students secured first division in arts, 809 in science, and 400 in commerce.Dr Krishna Kumar, principal of PM Shri +2 School, Raidih, which secured 100 % pass percentage in all three streams of Class XII examm with most of the students obtaining first division, attributed the success to three factors. “First, preparation of probable questions set, second, the efforts put in by students, and third, remedial class for weaker students before the final examinations.”The turnaround is being credited to the ‘Board Exam Vijay Abhiyan’, launched in 2025 under then deputy commissioner (DC) Prerna Dixit, who was involved in improving the exam results. The campaign focused on timely completion of courses, regular monitoring of assigned work by officers, block resource and cluster resource persons, direct interaction with students, motivation of parents, regular mock tests, model question preparation by a core committee of teachers and remedial classes for weak students.Dixit also supervised the process closely through video interactions and a dedicated WhatsApp group.Though the foundation had been laid by former DC Karn Satyarthi through the ‘Gift of Education’ programme in 2023, the initiative gained momentum during Dixit’s tenure.Officials said the success reflected coordinated efforts by the administration, teachers and students.DC Dileshwar Mahto said Gumla’s performance across all intermediate streams was the result of teamwork, continuous monitoring and sustained dedication.
