Kolkata: Three cops and two CRPF jawans were injured while trying to stop a clash between Trinamool and BJP supporters in Sandeshkhali on Tuesday night over the control of a ‘bheri’ (pisciculture pond). The OC of Nazat PS, two constables, and two CRPF personnel suffered bullet injuries. Four people have been arrested, Bengal DGP SN Gupta said.“Preliminary investigation suggests a dispute over a fishery pond led to the clash around 10.30pm. As police rushed to the spot, miscreants opened fire. We have arrested four persons and seized firearms, explosives and cartridges,” said Amit Javalgi, IG, Barasat.Sources said the clash broke out in the Rajbari area after armed men from both groups gathered near the pond. OC Bharat Prasun Purakayet, along with police and central forces, reached the spot but was caught in the crossfire. The injured were initially taken to Minakhan Rural Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital off EM Bypass in Kolkata.
