Kanpur: In a chain collision near Tilsada turn in Patara town of Ghatampur in Kanpur, 16 people were injured critically and there was a 20 km traffic jam on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway, 2 am onwards on Wednesday.With help of villagers, police rescued the injured and took them to Patara community health centre, where doctors administered first aid before referring all of them to Kanpur district hospital.A van carrying wedding guests stalled while turning at Tilsada turn in Patara town and a dumper coming from the Ghatampur direction rammed into it, triggering a chain collision involving six vehicles. Patara Chowki police and an NHI patrolling team, alerted by passers-by, rescued the injured from the vehicles and took them to Patara CHC. Doctors administered first aid and referred 13 of the 16 injured in critical condition. Some of the injured were shifted by their attendants to private hospitals.Police used NHI cranes and JCBs to clear the damaged vehicles from the highway in approximately three hours and restored traffic movement. Traffic was restored via a route diversion from Ramaeepur Chowraha towards Kanpur at Ghatampur Chowraha.During operation to safely extract injured trapped in the van, Patara Chowki in-charge Lalit Sharma sustained injury to his hand. The injured referred to hospital included Ashish Sharma, Rudra, Pranshu Shukla, Pradeep, Mohit, Rajesh, Rambahardur, Ajay Kumar, Naresh, Manoj Kumar, Jairam and Khushiram. Sarvesh Kumar, Hashim and Salman, residents of Barabanki, were also injured.
