Ahmedabad: The high court has denied regular bail to Asaram’s son Narayan Sai by suspending his life sentence in connection with a rape case and slammed him for his delay tactics in hearing of his appeal against conviction.Sai was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019 by a Surat sessions court on a rape complaint filed by one of his former disciples in 2012. He was arrested in 2013 and put on trial. He has been lodged in Lajpore jail since his arrest. The bench of Justice I J Vora and Justice R T Vachhani pulled Sai for his delay tactics in hearing of his appeal. Denying him bail, the bench said, “In our opinion, the applicant-convict is not interested at all in expeditious hearing of his appeal and by adopting delay tactics, he is having tendency to file repeated applications. This conduct itself disentitles the applicant for discretionary relief and the same would be nothing but a misuse of process of law.” tnn
