Patna: Bihar director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar flagged off two life support ambulances on Tuesday, designed to transport road accident victims to trauma centres within the golden hour. The units will be deployed on Atal Path, Ganga Path and Patli Path, roads known for high speeds and frequent accidents.Patna ranks third among the top 100 accident-prone cities in India. To address this, the ambulances will be integrated into the “Dial 112” emergency response support system to track response times and transit performance. These vehicles will operate in addition to the state health department’s existing ambulance fleet.The vehicles were donated to the Patna traffic police by a private insurance company as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative. The flag-off ceremony at Sardar Patel Bhawan was attended by ADG (traffic) Sudhanshu Kumar and the insurance company’s managing director V Suryanarayanan.Police officials said that while two units have become operational, the fleet of dedicated ambulances may be expanded in the future.
