T’puram: In a major anti-narcotics operation carried out amid the busy election result declaration period, Chadayamangalam excise team in Kollam district arrested a suspected drug supplier who allegedly attempted to exploit the situation, assuming enforcement agencies would be preoccupied. The accused, identified as Tanseer H (43), of Varkala, was apprehended on Monday by a team led by excise range inspector Nandu Tejas G B. Officials described him as a key wholesale distributor of synthetic drugs in areas such as Nilamel and Kaithodu. Around 20g of MDMA, valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh in the illegal market, was seized from his possession. Excise officials noted that even possession of small quantities of the drug is considered a serious, non-bailable offence under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the quantity recovered in this case falls under the commercial category, attracting stringent penalties. The arrest was recorded near Kannankode Junction in Nilamel village. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused regularly sourced MDMA in bulk from Bengaluru and transported it to Kerala using night service buses for local distribution. A case was registered, and further investigation is under way.
