Varanasi: A police constable of Mirzapur district, who was posted at Ghazipur police lines and deployed in VIP personal security, was arrested by Sarnath police on Monday night for having sexual relations with a 21-year-old woman for over four years after promising to marry and also getting her pregnancy terminated twice.ACP (Sarnath/crime), Vidush Saxena on Tuesday said that the woman turned up with her complaint on May 3, when the FIR was lodged on the charges of sexual intercourse without the intention of marriage, under the pretence of marriage, causing miscarriage without her consent and voluntarily causing hurt. The accused, Prashant Rai, 29, was summoned for questioning on Monday after he could not be found despite raiding several places by the investigation officer, said the ACP, mentioning that during questioning Rai confessed to his crime, after which he was arrested on Monday night and sent to jail after being produced before the court on Tuesday.In her complaint, the woman alleged that Rai lured her with a promise to marry and kept establishing physical relations for almost four years. As the people of her caste and locality started raising objections over their relationship, the accused took a room on rent to keep her there. She alleged that during this period, she became pregnant twice but Rai ensured termination of pregnancy twice. When she became rigid about marrying, Rai left her and secretly married another woman on Apr 25.When she became aware of it through the social media account updates of Rai and his close ones, Rai assaulted her and threatened her by posing as a VIP’s gunner. However, the woman decided to register a police case against Rai.
