Vadodara: Godhra municipality will have two couples elected to the civic body, after the results were declared on Tuesday. Three couples were in fray from various wards in the town. Yakub Bakar and his wife Sharifa won from Ward 9. In the neighbouring Ward 8, Ashraf Chanda and his wife Raziya won came through victorious hand-in-hand. Both couples were confident of victory when they filed their nomination papers. Yakub and Ashraf had won municipality elections in the past and are seasoned campaigners, having even faced defeats. The third couple included four-time councillor Bharti Patel, who was denied a ticket by the BJP and decided to contest from Ward 5 as an independent with her husband Satish Patel. They lost, with three BJP candidates and one independent winning from their ward.
