Bengaluru: Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru has launched a Preventive Genomics Clinic across its Bengaluru network, marking a step toward integrating advanced genetic diagnostics into routine clinical care and strengthening the shift toward precision medicine.
The clinic was inaugurated by Padmanabhan Balaram, former Director of the Indian Institute of Science, on World DNA Day, in the presence of senior clinicians and hospital leadership.
According to the hospital network, the facility will provide a suite of genomic services including whole genome and exome sequencing, hereditary cancer screening, pharmacogenomics testing, prenatal and newborn genetic screening, and specialised genetic diagnostics for cardiovascular, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
The initiative is designed to help clinicians detect inherited conditions earlier, improve diagnosis of complex diseases and tailor treatment strategies based on an individual’s genetic profile.
Speaking at the launch, Padmanabhan Balaram said genomics is playing an increasingly important role in shaping future healthcare by enabling deeper insights into disease mechanisms and individual risk profiles, helping move clinical practice toward preventive and personalised care.
Niti Krishna Raizada, Principal Director, Medical Oncology and Hemato-Oncology , Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, noted that several serious diseases, including cancers, have genetic links that can be identified early, enabling timely intervention and improved patient outcomes.
Vivek Jawali, Chairman of Cardiac Sciences, Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, said, “Genomics is transforming disease management by shifting healthcare from a “one-size-fits-all” approach to more personalised treatment pathways.”
Ananth Rao, Vice President and Business Head at Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, added that rising awareness of preventive healthcare is driving demand for advanced diagnostics that help individuals identify potential health risks early and make informed healthcare decisions.
