Times News NetworkChandigarh: Police have made two more arrests in the case of a Rs 26 lakh online fraud. The arrested individuals, Baljeet Singh, 28, and Maninder Singh, 30, are residents of Muktsar Sahib, Punjab.Maninder Singh was arrested after cyber police conducted a raid at Kolianwali village, Malout, Punjab on April 21. During interrogation, Maninder Singh said co-accused Balwinder alias Bindu and Baljinder convinced him to allow routing of misappropriated funds from his account. Around Rs 12.1 lakh was transferred into his account. He handed over the money to Balwinder and Baljinder in exchange for a 10% commission.Another accused, Baljeet Singh, was found to have facilitated the transfer and withdrawal of Rs 4.7 lakh for commission. The case: The fraud came to light when Ramdarbar resident Balwant, 65, went to Punjab National Bank to withdraw money. Bank officials informed him that the balance in his account was below Rs 1 lakh. They said multiple transactions totalling Rs 25.54 lakh had been made from his account between March and April, 2025. Incidentally, Balwant had been using a basic mobile phone without internet or banking applications. Earlier, police arrested three persons from Rajasthan in the case. MSID:: 130494990 413 |
