The India Meteorological Department describes conditions when maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees Celsius to 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal, as a heat wave. The mercury reached the 40 degrees mark for the first time this season on April 18, signalling the onset of harsh summer conditions. It was also the season’s first heat wave. Minimum temperature on Friday was 23 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above normal.The weather department has issued a yellow alert for the next four days. According to the forecast, maximum temperature will remain around 41 degrees Celsius for four days, during which heat wave is likely to persist. Rain, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/hour have been forecast on April 29. The city has received 73.4 mm rainfall this season, starting from March 1.
