Jaipur: Former India hockey international star Gurbax Singh Grewal passed away in Zirakpur, Chandigarh on Friday.Grewal was a member of the national hockey team that won a bronze medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. He died of a heart attack. He was 84.Grewal brothers — Gurbax and Balbir — participated together and represented the country in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.That was the first time in the history of Indian hockey that two real brothers participated together in one Olympics.Gurbax was a senior sports officer in Western Railways and recruited several Rajasthan players in the Railways hockey team.After retirement from Western Railways in Mumbai, he served as the honorary secretary of the Mumbai Hockey Association.
