Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Police have intensified crackdown on organised drug networks, detaining 96 traffickers under the ongoing ‘Anti-Chitta’ campaign so far.The statewide drive was launched on Nov 15, 2025, by chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, with the objective of making Himachal Pradesh free from the menace of ‘chitta’ (heroin).Acting under the stringent PIT-NDPS Act, the police executed a coordinated and intelligence-based operation targeting habitual and organised traffickers. Preventive detention orders were issued against eight notorious offenders. During the operation, five traffickers were arrested in Shimla district, while one each was apprehended from Dehra, Nurpur, and Una, the police said on Saturday.A police spokesperson said 65 traffickers were detained by Dec 2025. In 2026, action was taken against 31 persons, raising the total to 96. The authorities are also investigating the movable and immovable assets of those detained. Properties found to be acquired through illegal drug proceeds will be seized under the law to dismantle financial networks supporting the trade, the spokesperson added.The police reiterated the state’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and affirmed that strict action would continue.
