Lucknow: A nine-year-old girl died after being pushed off the roof of her house by a langur in Gauramafi village of Balrampur district late Saturday.According to reports, Shubhi, daughter of Ashok Kumar, was playing with other children on the rooftop of her house around 8pm when a langur suddenly attacked her, pushing her off the roof.Family members rushed the girl to the district hospital in Balrampur. However, due to her deteriorating condition, doctors referred her to Bahraich for advanced treatment. However, she succumbed to injuries on the way around midnight.The death of the girl triggered grief and outrage in the village. Her mother, Krishnavati, said Shubhi was the fourth among seven siblings. The family performed her last rites without a post-mortem.Angry villagers staged a protest, demanding immediate action to capture stray monkeys, alleging that repeated complaints had gone unaddressed.Officials said there is no specific provision under disaster relief norms to compensate for deaths caused by monkey attacks, as they are no longer classified under certain wildlife relief categories. Meanwhile, forest officials made contributions to extend financial aid to the family. Ranger Brijesh Singh Parmar from Barhwa range reached the village on Sunday with a team, provided financial assistance to the bereaved family.
