Chennai: Elections to the Bar Council of TN and Puducherry to elect 23 members concluded on Monday with more than 80% voter turnout. Counting of votes will commence on April 3. The election was conducted by a committee constituted by the Supreme Court, headed by former Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh high court Justice Rajiv Shakdher. The polling took place across 166 booths in TN and two in Puducherry. For the first time, the election was conducted using a QR code system to verify voter details. A total of 143 candidates contested. Political leaders who are also lawyers, including R S Bharathi of DMK, Thol Thirumavalavan of VCK, and Vanathi Srinivasan of BJP, cast their votes.According to vice-chairman of Bar Council of India S Prabakaran, about 80,000 votes have been polled all over TN. “The election was held peacefully in all booths. The credit must go to the high-power committee appointed by the Supreme Court,” he said. TNN
