Jaipur: A 75-year-old man was killed after an out-of-control trailer loaded with iron rods ran him over and dragged him for nearly 100 feet near Antela village on the Jaipur-Delhi National Highway (NH-48) in Kotputli-Behror district Monday morning. The trailer driver fled the scene after abandoning his vehicle on the spot.The accident occurred around 8:30am under the Paota police station area of the district.CCTV footage of the incident shows the trailer suddenly veering off a service road, jumping the divider and hitting the victim after crashing into the parking area of a roadside eatery.Paota police said the construction of a culvert near the scene of the accident had led to highway traffic being diverted through a service road.“CCTV footage shows the victim, Antela resident Surjaram Yadav, standing near a parking divider when he sees the trailer hurtling towards him. He tried to run but was struck by the vehicle and trapped beneath its wheels,” a police officer at the scene said.Bystanders rushed after the trailer but failed to restrain the driver, who escaped on foot, he added.Surjaram was rushed to the Paota sub-district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have seized the trailer and registered a case.
