Gandhinagar: Seventy-five govt primary schools were shut down in the past two years, the state govt informed the assembly on Thursday. The govt cited the absence of students as the reason for shutting down the schools.
AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava sought to know the reasons for shutting down the schools and the alternative arrangements that were made for students.
In a written reply, the govt said, “Due to a decrease in the number of students, or if the number of students is 0, arrangements are made for students to enrol in nearby schools, and transportation facilities are provided to them.”
2,674 govt schools operating in shifts
In reply to a question raised in the Gujarat assembly on Thursday, the state govt said that 2,674 govt schools are presently operating in shifts. Citing reasons, the state govt said in a written reply that the work of dismantling dilapidated classrooms is ongoing in some schools, while new ones are being constructed in others.
