Pune: The wait since May 13 when SSC results were announced is finally over for lakhs of students who began their admissions to First Year Junior College (FYJC) on Monday. The state education department released the allotment list on Saturday and set July 7 as the last date to confirm admissions. In the Pune district, 62,812 students were given allotments in the first centralised admission round, against a vacancy of over 2,012 seats in junior colleges. Most students said the process is smooth but some faced slight delays due to technical difficulties. Anand Ingale from Kothrud said, “We came prepared with all the required documents. However, we faced some difficulty while uploading the signature and photograph on the online form due to file size rules.” Ingale confirmed his admission for the arts stream.By 6pm on Monday, 40,211 students across the state confirmed their admissions. This is the first time that an online centralised admission process (CAP) has been adopted across the state instead of just the major cities. In the cutoff list for CAP round 1, as many as 6,32,194 students were allotted seats in junior colleges across the state. Of the 10,66,005 students who applied in CAP round 1, 4,57,841 were allotted their first preference of college, making it mandatory for them to confirm their admissions, failing which they will not be allowed to enter the next regular CAP rounds.Ishita, who was allotted a seat in a junior college for the science stream, said that the staff appointed by the college to guide the students was helpful.“After 1pm, the system slowed down, and it took time. Apart from these technical things, the process is sorted, and the college staff is helpful,” she added.
