Nagpur: Armed youths went on a rampage on Tuesday night, vandalising 6 vehicles and triggering tension in the Mahal area. At the time of filing the report, the locality remained on high alert. A heavy police presence has been deployed across Mahal to prevent any untoward incident.According to information received, a group of 12 youths reached the Gandhi Gate area late on Tuesday night. The youths were reportedly carrying weapons. They began smashing vehicles parked along the stretch from Gandhi Gate to Ram Coolers. Upon receiving the information, DCP Rahul Madne, along with a police team, rushed to the spot. Acting under Madne’s guidance, a special team launched a search operation to trace the vandals. By late night, police had detained three youths in connection with the incident.Mahal had witnessed communal violence in March. Following that, armed police personnel were posted in the Gandhi Gate area. However, the security deployment had reportedly been relaxed in recent days. Taking advantage of this, the armed youths carried out the vandalism on Tuesday night, police sources said.
