Gurgaon: A drunk driver rammed his SUV into at least four people, leaving a 55-year-old man severely injured, at a busy market in Gurgaon’s Jyoti Park area around 8.45pm on Monday.The driver was caught at the scene and identified as 25-year-old Ritesh, a resident of Jhajjar. According to police, the injured man was identified as Suli, who is originally from Bihar’s Guldiya village and works in a shop in Sadar Bazar. He lives near Hanuman Temple in the city. Suli was walking home and when he reached near the mandi, a white Maruti Brezza hit him from behind at high speed, throwing him onto the road. Officers said he suffered head and leg injuries. Ritesh was caught by the public before he was handed over to police. Police registered a case on the basis of complaints filed by the injured and seized the car from the spot. Suli’s nephew Vikas rushed to the scene after being informed and noted down the vehicle’s registration number. Police shifted the injured man to Sector 10 govt hospital for treatment.Doctors prepared Suli’s MLC and declared him fit to give a statement, in which he has sought strict legal action against the driver. Police said a case was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at New Colony police station. “The accused was under the influence of alcohol and was driving recklessly. Around 3–4 people were injured in the incident. Only one suffered serious injury. He is currently in a stable condition,” an officer said. The others suffered only minor injuries and were administered first aid.
