Mysuru: Mysuru city police, who are on a mission to make the city drug-free under the “Vimukthi” campaign, have arrested five persons, including one from Kerala, for allegedly peddling ganja and synthetic drugs.As part of the special operations, Kuvempu Nagar police raided a service apartment at Kanakadasa Nagar on Tuesday after receiving information about MDMA peddling in the area. They arrested Shabeer of Kasaragod district, Kerala, and seized MDMA worth Rs 4 lakh from him, police said.During interrogation, police found that Shabeer had earlier been booked in a robbery case at Hosadurga police station in Kasaragod district and in an NDPS case at Banashankari police station in Bengaluru. Further investigation is on, they added.Police have instructed service apartment and lodge owners to conduct background checks before renting out rooms, and to collect Aadhaar or other ID proofs and mobile numbers from all occupants.Four more arrestedCity Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested four more individuals for allegedly selling ganja and seized 5 kg of the banned substance, valued at Rs 8.65 lakh. A four-wheeler reportedly used to transport the ganja was also seized. The accused — Amjad Pasha, Ziya Khan, Muhammad Saqlain and Syed Baig — were arrested in Udayagiri police limits, police said.The CCB team included ACP Muhammad Sharif Rawther, inspector Shabbir Hussain and PSIs Lepaksha K, Jyothsna R, Revanasiddappa and Anil.
