Guwahati: A 45-year-old Kuki villager was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Manipur’s Tamenglong district on Tuesday. The individual, identified as Haokhogin Lhouvum of Lasan village, was killed while he was on his way to his farm. Lhouvum is survived by his wife and son.Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Kuki tribes, said the murder “is a stark reflection of the grave failure of the state’s security apparatus, the selective deployment of security forces, and the persistent administrative bias against the Kuki-Zo people.”The tribal body further said, “The govt of Manipur, the district administration, and the concerned security agencies must explain why vulnerable Kuki-Zo villages continue to be left exposed to such attacks. Despite repeated appeals from the Kuki-Zo civil society organisations, Kuki-Zo habitations continue to be denied the same level of security and protection afforded to other communities.”Earlier, on Monday, a 58-year-old Rongmei Naga villager, Chungjanglung Panmei, was killed in a suspected insurgent attack while collecting firewood in Kangpokpi district.
