Says will not stop until last family is reached
‘Cases related to terrorism will be investigated’
Srinagar, Mar 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 27 next of kin of terrorism victims and 22 next of kin of deceased government employees. He reiterated that around 400 families had now received employment under the campaign for justice to terror victims, and vowed to continue until the last eligible family was reached.
The appointment letters were handed over at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar, under the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme-2022 and SRO 43.
“Our campaign to deliver justice to terror victims’ families has restored their tomorrow. We have succeeded in dispelling the shadow of injustice and ushering a new dawn of justice at the doorsteps of terror victims’ families. To date, around 400 next of kin have received employment and we will continue relentlessly until we reach the very last family still awaiting justice,” Sinha said.
The Lieutenant Governor said the exercise was not merely administrative. “My aim throughout this process is to ensure that no terror-affected family slipped into the cracks of neglect, fading from public and official gaze. I view these appointment letters as true justice, and today’s event stands as its living testament,” he said.
Paying homage to civilian victims of terrorism, Sinha said families of the poor and vulnerable, who had lost their loved ones to terrorists’ bullets, had for decades clung to the hope of redress. He said the campaign launched from Baramulla last year had provided these families with support, courage and renewed self-belief.
The Lieutenant Governor directed Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti to conduct a comprehensive review of cases pertaining to property encroachment on terrorism victims. “Lands or homes forcibly seized from terror-affected families will be liberated and returned, and cases yet to undergo investigation will receive impartial, transparent probes,” he said.
Sinha also announced that a robust rehabilitation framework would be chalked out for victims who had lost their eyesight or were living with severe disabilities, with a timeline to be outlined for providing essential housing and other support.
Calling upon people to preserve unity and foil the efforts of separatist elements, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration, police and security forces were taking decisive action to dismantle terror networks. “We must remain vigilant against divisive elements attempting to divide us along sectarian lines. We are Indians; our collective duty is the peace and progress of our nation,” he said.
Among those present were Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti; Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari; Commissioner Secretary GAD M. Raju; IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi; Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo; SSP Srinagar Dr G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy; Chairman Save Youth Save Future Foundation Wajahat Farooq Bhat; senior officials; members of social organisations and family members of terrorism victims.
