Nagpur: Crime branch squad of the city police dismantled an inter-state mobile theft gang involved in trafficking stolen smartphones to Bangladesh and Nepal. The gang came to Nagpur a few days ago and was set to leave after a few days.In a major operation under senior PI Dilip Chandan and DCP Rahul Maknikar, police arrested 10 members of the gang and recovered 40 high-end handsets valued at 12 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the team raided a rented accommodation in Kinkhede Layout, Shahu Mohalla. The search yielded multiple smartphones from various brands. The gang admitted links to gangs in Bangladesh and Nepal. Among those arrested were Md Shahbaz (23), Md Dildar (19), and Sheikh Ajmer (20) from Katihar, Bihar, along with 7 others from Sahibganj district in Jharkhand.The accused had previous cases registered at Ambazari, Sonegaon, and MIDC police stations. Investigations show the gang targeted victims across Nagpur, neighbouring districts such as Yavatmal, Bhandara, Washim, and Nanded, before funnelling devices through inter-state network.Probe hints at ties to radical elements in Malda, a border district notorious for illegal activities.
