New Delhi: A 30-year-old scooter rider died after allegedly being hit by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus near Uttam Nagar West Metro station in southwest Delhi on Tuesday morning. Police said the rider, identified as Daksh, a resident of Uttam Nagar, fell after colliding with an open car door and was then run over by the bus. According to police, a passerby made a PCR call and a a team reached the spot and found the scooter damaged and the rider unresponsive. He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident caused traffic congestion in the area as commuters gathered at the site. Preliminary inquiry revealed that a car had stopped on the left side of the road. When a passenger opened the right rear door, the scooter rider crashed into it. DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said, “The rider fell on the road and was then run over by a DTC bus coming from behind.” Police said the scooter, the car, and the bus are all believed to have been involved in the collision. Singh added that the bus driver has been apprehended. The car driver has also been detained for questioning. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death. Eyewitnesses told reporters that the car had stopped in the middle of the road. One witness, Mukesh Thakur, claimed the bus was travelling at high speed. Another witness, Ram Balak, said the car was a cab operated by an app-based aggregator. A case has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station. TNN
