Shimla: Leader of opposition in Himachal Pradesh assembly Jai Ram Thakur on Monday criticised the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu govt, saying three years into its tenure, many budget announcements remain unimplemented. The former chief minister alleged that some promises existed only on paper, while others were repeatedly mentioned in budgets without any visible results on the ground. He claimed that the govt came to power on false promises and was now running the administration by making “false” budget announcements. Thakur stressed the difference between election speeches and legislative commitments, noting that it is the govt’s responsibility to implement schemes for which funds are allocated. The LoP cited examples such as the Rs 25,000 subsidy for 20,000 meritorious girl students to buy electric scooters, creation of six green corridors, and PET scan facilities in Chamba, Nahan, and Hamirpur, all of which did not materialise. Small initiatives for farmers, women, tribal communities, and youth employment remain unfulfilled, he added. The Congress govt presented budgets totaling nearly Rs 2.2 lakh crore over three years and borrowed over Rs 45,000 crore, yet many projects remain incomplete, he said. This raises serious questions about the govt’s policies, priorities, and accountability, he said while asking the chief minister to explain before presenting its fourth budget on March 21 where the allocated funds went.
