Guwahati: The northeast’s rich literary tradition received national recognition as three writers from the region were honoured with the Sahitya Akademi awards for 2025 for their literary contributions in Assamese, Bodo and Manipuri languages.Among the 24 recipients, three awardees were from the northeast. Writer Devabrata Das won in the Assamese category for his novel ‘Karhi Khelar Sadhu’ published in 2021. In the Bodo category, Sahaisuli Brahma received the award for her novel ‘Dwngnwi Lama Mwnse Gathwn’ published in 2020. In the Manipuri category, writer Haobam Nalini was honoured for her short story ‘Kanglamdriba Eephut’ published in 2019.“Sahitya Akademi is happy to announce today its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 Indian languages recognised by it. Eight books of poetry, four novels, six books of short stories, two essays, one literary criticism, one autobiography and two memoirs have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025,” an Akademi release stated.The winning authors will receive a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh at a special award event to be organised later by the Akademi.Taking to social media ‘X’, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also congratulated the winners and lauded their contributions to the literary fields, “I am delighted that Assam’s literary brilliance has been recognised at the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2025. Congratulations to Shri Devabrat Das for Karhi Khelar Sadhu (Assamese) and Smt Sahaisuli Brahma for Dwngnwi Lama Mwnse Gathon (Bodo), and I wish them continued success,” he said.
