Ayodhya: Three children aged 8-10 years, including two brothers, drowned in a water-filled pit in Lohrauli village of Basti district. The children fell into the pit filled with rainwater while playing on Tuesday afternoon. Police have sent the bodies for postmortem and are investigating the matter.Basti SP Abhinandan said among the deceased children, there were two brothers Aditya (10) and Ayush (8), and Virat (9) their neighbour.Police said soil excavation had been ongoing in a field in the outskirts of village, resulting in a large, deep pit and recent heavy rains had filled this pit with water. The children were playing near the field and unknowingly approached the pit. Police said initially one child fell into the pit and the other two followed in an attempt to save him, all eventually drowning.Villagers tried to rescue them, but the pit’s depth and water volume hindered their efforts.
